coast around Staithes is both visually stunning and is renowned for fossil hunting. There is a
good chance that you will find something interesting, especially after

The Cleveland way walk passes in front of the
cottage. You don't have to do it all, but this site gives you
some idea of the fantastic walks that are possible from the Cottage.

North York Moors National Park
Staithes sits in the North York Moors National
Park. Lots to see and do in God's own county.

Yorks Moor Railway
Classic steam engines run on the nearby North Yorks
Moor Railway. The Hogwart's express line from Harry Potter was
filmed on the NYMR, as it traversed the stunning North Yorks Moors.
Well worth a day out.

Sea Fishing
Staithes is a haven for
anglers. If you are an experienced angler or a novice, there are
deep sea fishing trips that operate from the village. The link
will take you to 'All my Sons', a local fishing boat. Rods and
expertise are available.

The Staithes and Runswick lifeboat
The local lifeboat is just
along from the house. The lifeboat is celebrated each year on
lifeboat weekend in July. Its well worth a visit for this alone,
although the cottage is likely to be booked already.

Whitby Goth Festival
Whitby is the setting for Bram
Stoker's Dracula, and the gothic tradition is celebrated by sallow
youths and middle aged Goths who haven't yet lost interest in their
Sisters of Mercy records. The Whitby Goth festival happens twice
a year, and is the highlight of the Whitby cultural calendar.
